Invitation to join our chapter

We invite you to join the St John Henry Newman Chapter of Catholics United for the Faith.  CUF is an international lay apostolate founded in 1968 to support, defend, and advance the efforts of the teaching Church (for more information, see https://cuf.org/).

Lay Catholics from across our Diocese recently formed the St John Henry Newman Chapter in order to help the faithful respond to the scandals rocking our Church both within our Diocese and on a global level.  We believe that these scandals are ultimately rooted in a lack of fidelity to the teachings of the Church.  We also believe that in order to overcome them, we must not only organize as laity, but also recommit ourselves to lives of holiness, through the transformational power of Jesus Christ, under the protection of his Holy Mother and through the intercession of St John Henry Newman.

Our chapter’s mission is to promote in our Diocese the overall mission of Catholics United for the Faith, which is “to unite the faithful from all walks of life in order to support, defend, and advance the efforts of the Teaching Church in accord with the teachings of the Second Vatican Council” through doctrinal and spiritual formation in the Catholic faith, personal renewal, engagement in evangelization and catechesis, and fidelity and communion with the Holy Father and bishops in union with him.

Our first goal is to improve communication amongst the laity in the DWC, and between laity and clergy by facilitating the flow of unbiased information, for the purposes of (1) providing an avenue for those who have complaints or concerns that are not being properly addressed through official Diocesan channels, and (2) granting Diocesan leadership unmediated access to the concerns of the laity.

Other goals include supporting clergy in their efforts to promote Catholic teaching and practice in accordance with the Magisterium of the Church; supporting seminarians in their vocations; exhorting our Catholic schools to teach the Faith clearly; and holding our Diocesan leadership financially accountable.
